A Sarawakian touch in an Australian wedding video

We did not take on many weddings this year, but this one stood out for its warmth and sense of home. Dennis and Natasha were married in Australia, yet the entire film carried a familiar Sarawakian grounding.

Wedding film for Dennis & Natasha, Australia.

This Australian wedding video was a collaborative effort - Michelle Cameron, of Gravity Studio, New Zealand, was videographer and lead editor, while Small Town Creatives' own Darren Chang supported the post-production as assistant editor.

This international collaboration was made possible through friendships sown by their childhoods spent in Kuching - Natasha, Michelle, and Darren’s wife, Bekah, all grew up here, and that shared sense of home made the project feel unusually personal.

The workflow was fully remote, using Adobe Premiere Pro, focusing on clean storytelling, keeping the tone natural, and letting the couple's real personalities carry the story - no over-stylisation or forced transitions. The focus stayed on pacing, emotion, and the small interactions and details that define a wedding day.

Although we are a Kuching-based boutique production house, we love opportunites to work across borders and across teams. We pride ourselves on our highly collaborative creative culture. We enjoy partnering with other filmmakers, whether they are in New Zealand, Australia, West Malaysia or anywhere else. This project is one example of how a shared Sarawak background and clear workflow can produce a film that feels grounded, even when shot far from home.

If you have a collaborative project in mind, or are planning a wedding and want a film that is cinematic without feeling artificial, contact us here - we are eager to hear from you! Also, take the time to check out Michelle's impressive film portfolio, particularly her 2023 documentary series Fight or Flight, which is a powerful look at anxiety and resilience. Outside of her day job at Victoria University of Wellington, she is a talented and thoughtful up-and-coming indie filmmaker, and we cannot wait till she graces Kuching again.
